DREAM WRITE UP: Kay Coopey
Capturing Family Memories.
The below is Kay’s story, written by her friend:
“At the beginning of October, we got the devastating news that one of our best friends, Kay, had been taken to hospital. She was faced with the knowledge that she potentially only had a few weeks left with her family. She has battled with this disease for 15+ years like a true Mama Bear, facing it head-on and fighting with all her strength, overcoming most obstacles, even down to her having her children. When she had the option to come home and spend her time with her family and friends, she jumped at the opportunity. So, we knew we had to make this time count and make it as special as possible.
We contacted EvesTrust to request a weekend that Kay’s children would never forget and Kay could share in that experience. But we knew that time was a major factor.
Something Kay had always wanted to do was go to a lodge in a safari park and wake up next to the animals with her family. So that’s what we asked Evestrust if they could plan for her and, within 2 weeks of our application, they’d been in contact, it was booked and Kay was on her way with the family.
The children had the time of their lives spending time together, feeding the animals, and walking around the park as a family. Minus a few off-roading incidents with the wheelchair, everything was smooth and taken care of. A beautiful lodge facing the safari enclosures, the heart of Africa tours, meals, extra park tickets for they adult children to visit for the day and even the nurses were arranged to go and help her at the park. Everything you could think of was sorted for them, even down to the park restaurant accommodating them having pizza in bed with the giraffes by the window. Core memories locked in. They got the quality time they needed after Kay had been in hospital for a few weeks. Kay even got to see one of her favourite animals, the red panda, and had her favourite fish and chips on a plate. They all loved every special moment that had been arranged for them that weekend.
We can’t thank EvesTrust and their Dreams Coordinator enough, plus everyone who has supported the charity to enable them to help people like Kay and her family. The children are now signed up for a charity run to give back in a few weeks, to say thank you for their amazing weekend. This charity was built to help and care, and we can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for Kay and her family.”
Kay’s husband said, “We had a fantastic time, they really did make us feel welcome and even the weather was kind. We got out and did the Savanna Tour in the afternoon, which Kay and the kids absolutely loved”
As a charity we must thank Chester Zoo for helping make this Dream so special but most of all, we must thank the directors and staff of OneCall Insurance, whose dedicated fundraising and kind donation, made this extra special dream possible.
