On Thursday 27th October I was invited to the Pride in Doncaster Awards as a shortlisted finalist in the Fundraiser of the Year category for 2011. Each category had been narrowed down to a shortlist of two by a panel of judges representing Doncaster Council and the Doncaster Free Press. It is obviously amazing just to be nominated for this kind of thing as it shows the work we are doing to help others is being noticed and appreciated.
Winning the award I think is more important for our Charity than any individual satisfaction as I hope it will give our little growing Charity the credibility it deserves and helps us gain more support to help as many people in Doncaster as we can.
On a personal level winning the award meant a lot, it was only a year ago my mum, Eve, accompanied me to the Doncaster Unsung Hero award that I was nominated for. Seeing the pride on her face that night is a memory I won’t forget, especially as I almost missed the event through illness. Unfortunately I couldn’t win the award for her that night but this gave me a chance to put that right. So I dedicate this Award to her.
