Lighting up Christmas

Posted on 12/24/2024

Last Wednesday it was a privilege to visit one of the greatest light shows around, right in line with the current McDonalds advert and the film “Deck the Halls”. AND you can visit it yourself.

Stuart of Newhall Road, Kirk Sandall said. “We are thrilled to share that this is our second year creating a Christmas light display at our home, on Newhall Road, Doncaster and we are excited to invite our community to enjoy the festive magic.

The planning for this year’s display began about six months ago, with building the elements taking place from late August through October. Throughout November, we dedicated our weekends to putting everything together, and the result is a synchronised light show designed with immense care and creativity.

At the heart of our display is a small microcomputer called a Raspberry Pi, which I programmed using specialised lighting software. This system transmits effects to the controllers scattered around our house, sending signals to each light individually, dictating its colour and brightness. It’s been a rewarding challenge to bring this vision to life, and what began as a hobby has grown into an obsession with designing, building, and perfecting this display.

Christmas is a time for giving, and while our lights bring joy to many, we also want to give back to those in need. With so many people in challenging circumstances, we hope our display can spark happiness while also supporting the community through charitable donations.

Visitors can experience the full magic of the display from the comfort of their cars by tuning into our dedicated radio transmitter on 87.7 FM, allowing them to enjoy the synchronised audio while watching the lights.

The light show runs every half hour and features a sequence of Christmas songs. Between Christmas and New Year, the playlist will shift to modern pop and classic hits, including music from artists such as Queen, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Avicii and many other favourites. The lights are on daily from 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM, and we encourage anyone enjoying the display to consider donating via https://gofund.me/8148e596
