💚Supporting The Chatsfield Suite💚
As part of our work we don’t only answer lifelong Dreams or grant wishes, we also want to do anything we can to make a patient smile or be at peace.
From personal experience we are aware of the hours and hours of chemotherapy treatment that takes place in the Chatsfield Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. That treatment can generally consist of long periods of time for the patient to be sat, alone with their thoughts while their course is complete. This time can naturally be hard to escape the mental worry of their current situation and can only have an impact on the patients mental health, during a period it’s so important for them to remain positive.
We know that filling these time periods, focusing those moments on something outside of what is currently happening, can make that time easier. That small positive can help prevent the onset of mental health impacts and help empower a patient with new enthusiasm & strength for the treatment and battles ahead.
We are doing this with the generous support from the Wakefield Mi Community team at BGL Group who donated £1000 to enable us to purchase a number of personal DVD players and tablets for the patients to use during their treatment. Emily Taylor, CSR & Sponsorship Manager BGL Group said, “We are proud to support The Eve Merton Dreams Trust as part of our ‘Regional Charity Partner Programme’. The work they do within the local community really makes a difference and impacts so many lives”.
The positive impact seen by these DVD players & tablets will last for many years and support thousands of patients coming through the Chatsfield Suite every single day. Those small moments of mental support can be the real difference, those hours waiting for lengthy treatments to be complete can now be filled with a distraction, a positive method of Escapism. Oscar winning movie director Martin Scorsese once said, “Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places. The open doors and minds. Movies are the memories of our lifetime.”
We also aim to provide the Chatsfield Suite with a wide range of DVD’s for all ages, supported by a local campaign to allow other members of our community to support the project with DVD donations. This is something the our friends & staff at One Call Insurance, Doncaster College and University Centre, Doncaster Tourist Information, Atherton Godfrey – Doncaster Solicitors, Buzz Bingo have been keen to assist with, and you the public responded in large amounts with around 2000 DVD’s donated.
Doncaster people can help Doncaster people, and sometimes it’s the little things that can have the biggest impact. 1 in 5 Cancer patients will suffer with post diagnosis PTSD and other mental health conditions. Everything we can do to support our brave patients combat this, we will do.
