Independence can be a Dream
Practical help with a tumble dryer supported Denise’s independence at home.
Sometimes it can be the little things that help you feel more normal and everyday, that make you smile and provide that distraction. This is Denises story:
“Sadly, Denise was diagnosed with facial cancer late last year and had palliative radiotherapy treatment, with the most recent being only being at the beginning to February. Solely in an attempt to shrink the tumour.
During her condition and treatment, Denise found housework and everyday tasks harder to get through but and enjoyed either baking or completing the weekly washing. However, Denises dryer had stopped working, making the washing a harder task during the winter weather conditions. Like you’d expect, she simply wasn’t able to dry her clothing, leaving the house covered in clothes while she was trying to recuperate.
She raised these concerns with Laura her community nurse, just in everyday conversation, during her regular visits. Laura, knowing about the charity and having dealt with them previously, asked for permission to get in touch with evestrust to see if they could support with a new dryer. Laura’s thoughts were this would Denise keep a little bit of her independence and would allow her to carry on completing the tasks she enjoys.
So she did, she reached out, entered a easy to raise application and was quickly was designated a lovely dreams coordinator, who not only picked up the request quickly, but replied and sorted this for her almost instantly! The same week!
EvesTrust arranged for this to happen and presented Denise with a brand new condenser dryer along with a hamper containing lots of essentials to use for her washing and drying such as softener, fragrance boosters, wash tablets, dryer sheets, dryer balls and some small personal gifts too!
Denise was very grateful and over the moon with her delivery. I’ve never seen somebody so happy to do the washing, but to her, this has meant she would be able to keep busy, whilst she still could and reclaim that feeling of independence.
Denise was a little camera shy but pictured is Laura, her community nurse that reached out to Evestrust and Helen, Denise’s daughter……oh, and of course the new dryer and gifts to go with it.
Thank you so very much to Evestrust for allowing Denise to keep this small joy and for make mum smile.”
Sadly, Denise lost her exceptionally long fight to cancer in recent days, but her story and smile, will go on in the memories of all who knew her.
Your support of Evestrust can make a huge difference to people who not only need it, but who deserve that little bit of help and deserve something to make them smile.
