In Need of a Treat

The below is Maureen’s story, written this for her by her district nurse Laura and is happy to share.

“Maureen was referred to Evestrust by her community nurse who spoke with her and suggested that the trust would be an excellent way for Maureen to have a treat.

Maureen was diagnosed with cancer in 2025 and is now receiving palliative support from the nurses.

Maureen is unable to leave her home but takes immense pride in her collection of teddy bears which she has collected from family visits abroad and various other places. Maureen also enjoys puzzle books and loves to have candles in her home.

I got in touch following a conversation with Maureen to see if we could do something special for her to make her smile, following what had been a difficult few months.

I contacted Evestrust who quickly assigned a Dreams coordinator that I have dealt with for earlier dreams and shared my idea about getting a special teddy in a lovely colour. I suggested maybe a Charlie Bear. They took it from there and did some of their own research. Evestrust decided they would surprise Maureen with the full Monday-Friday week collection! Something I know Maureen would love and included 7 beautifully coloured teddies for her to cherish.

Baileigh and the charity did not stop there! They’d been out and purchased a hamper with all sorts of bits in there; word searches, crosswords, sketch books, pens, pencils and of course some new candles!

I’ve seen with my own eyes, Maureen was incredibly happy and will often show anyone who visits, all her new bears, which have taken pride of place at the side of her on her bed.

Maureen would like to thank Baileigh and Evestrust for the kind gifts and for putting a smile back on her face, which Baileigh said that is what the charity is all about.”
