A Dream Earned, A Dream Needed, A Dream Shared
The below is the story of a fellow charity worker, fighting to make a difference in our local community, but this time….he could enjoy his own Dream, at a time he needs it:
“My Dad John Allen was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2024. John has lost so many family members to cancer including his eldest daughter, Marie Caygill. Since his daughter’s passing John has taken on a Directors Role at “The Doncaster cancer support drop-in centre” which Marie set up a few months before she passed away. He has dedicated the past 10years helping support local cancer patients in their time of need. He never thought the day would come, where he would be the one sat in that Dr’s room hearing those words “were sorry to say it’s cancer”.
As John helps run the Doncaster cancer support drop in centre he was already aware of the amazing work that Evestrust do. Evestrust volunteers Gary and Adele visit the drop-in centre, on behalf of the charity, every Tuesday. They have become more than fellow volunteers; they are friends who we deeply treasure.
My Dad John had always wanted to see Cirque Du Soleil, so I had a chat with Adele and told her about my dad’s wishes. Adele was amazing and contacted me the same day saying Cirque du solei was on in London but only for another 9 days. I believed this was too much to ask at such short notice but in true Evestrust style Adele said it was possible and asked me to leave it to her… 2 days later it was booked with a 2-night stay in a beautiful hotel. EvesTrust made the whole process so easy for us, we had nothing to do other than turn up for our train and have the best time ever and that’s exactly what we did. It was my Dad, myself and my mum who got to enjoy the fabulous weekend. It wasn’t just the show either, we definitely made the most of London, we had a river cruise, rode the London eye, visited the natural history and science museum and lastly but most certainly not least watched Cirque du sulais from the 2nd row…. WOW WOW and wow… what an amazing experience with amazing seats…. The weekend was full of fun, lots of laughs and more importantly making everlasting memories.
The break was a chance for my dad to forget about his cancer and simply enjoy life. It was an opportunity to do something he’s always wanted to do with the people he loves the most. We will be forever thankful to Evestrust and of course our wonderful friend Adele who worked her little butt off making it all possible, with just a couple of days’ notice.
So, on behalf of my Dad John, myself Dawn and my Mum Ann, THANK YOU!!!!”
As a charity, we not only had the privilege to meet Marie Caygill, but also answer a Dream for her before her fight with Cancer came to an end. In her name, John and the family have done something fantastic with the Drop-in Centre, providing support when Doncaster people need it and it’s an honor for us to be a part of it.
Thank You to all our followers, it’s your donations and support give us those funds available, that allow us to do all we can to assist with Dreams such as this.
