Family Time, Priceless
The following is Christophers story, written in his honor by his granddaughter Stephanie Walker:
In October of 2021 my grandad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. We always knew our grandad was a legend and always just took things in his stride. Over the years he underwent numerous sessions and types of chemotherapy but unfortunately all of these would be deemed unsuccessful, something we found out in 2024.
That news took a huge toll on Chris both physically and mentally, and not only on him either, but on the entire family as a whole, as at the time we found out the news, grandad was living in Turkey and we were still over here in the UK.
As the year went on grandad became more and more unwell which led to him moving back to the UK so he could be surrounded by his family. In this time, we approached EvesTrust for more information as we knew a family friend was part of the charity. She explained everything to us in detail, which lead to us deciding to complete the application and apply for a dream.
We just wanted to make memories, were a big family and I was under the stress of bringing my wedding forward in hope my grandad could make it there. My grandad was a real big time family man and therefore wanted us all to share his dream break (children, grandchildren and great grandchildren).
Our Dreams Coordinator Baileigh found the perfect place to accommodate us all! A huge 8 bedroomed house in the countryside with outdoor glampimg pods, games rooms, barns and hot tubs. We made incredible memories and laughed all weekend long, grandad was so happy to be able to have that holiday with us all around him as due to work commitments, children and all the other usual bits we couldn’t get together all of us as often as we’d hoped to. The process was so easy! The charity arranged and sorted every little detail, all we had to do was turn up. There were bbq packs there for us already, so we just had to go shopping. In one of the outdoor barns there was a projector which we screened one of the Euros games on for us all to watch, all had our faces painted and took lots of pictures, Chris was in his element.
Unfortunately, in May 2025 my grandad/chris passed away, cancer had really took over this time, he was too tired to carry on and came to the end of his fight peacefully with his family with him.
We want to thank EvesTrust and Baileigh for giving us the precious time we got with him as this ended up being the last time we were all together. We’ve all now got such amazing memories to save forever and lots of photos, which sadly now is all we have to remember it by. See his smile in those pictures, and remembering it beam from his face……priceless!
Such an amazing charity we can’t thank you enough for the opportunity and the memories you’ve given us.
