Carl Bedford “An Anfield Dream”

Once a Red, always a Red

The below is Carl’s story, an avid Liverpool fan, in the words of his loving wife Sarah:

“My husband was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour at the age of 51 in November 2024.

We’d noticed things starting to change slowly over time with his speech first, around April 2024, and then in July Carl started to get pins and needles in his hand, which later seemed to move into his leg.  Carl drove for a living but had to stop driving and go onto the sick in October 2024.  Throughout this journey and treatment Carl has remained positive and prior to this diagnosis, he was a person who would do anything for anyone.

Carl is a big Liverpool FC fan and for Christmas he received a gift from his family to go to the Liverpool Museum and stadium tour, something he was VERY excited about.  I knew Carl would love this, but we needed some support to make this possible and as special as can be.

After contacting The Eve Merton Dreams Trust, they arranged to not only help with the cost of the train, where we travelled first class which made it comfortable for Carl, but they paid for an overnight stay in a lovely hotel and an evening meal in a restaurant nearby.  That way we didn’t need to rush about or have to deal with all the travel in one day, something I know would have been a struggle.

My husband really enjoyed the trip, and I enjoyed the time spent with my husband doing something he loves.  Thanks again for helping us to create amazing memories together as a couple.
