We recently received a very moving dream request from a lady named Marie Gelder for her loving father Toney.
Toney has stage 4 lung and liver cancer and his one dream was to meet the current stars of his lifelong love, Sheffield United.
On Saturday 26th September, we had the pleasure of sending Toney and his family to Bramall Lane to see his first love, the mighty Blades take on our very own home town team Doncaster Rovers.
Toney and his grandson Ben were guests of the club in the directors box, getting to chat away with the likes of Sheffield Utd legends Ted Hemsley, Len Badger, Tony Agana and a local favourite Brian Deane.
After the Blades won the game 3-2, Toney was joined by the rest of his family and the players themselves where they had pictures taken, signed autographs, and chatted. Toney loved the day and loved sharing the experience with his grandson.
Marie (Toney’s daughter) wanted to say a quick Thank You to the trust for arranging this for my father.
“I was told about Eve’s Trust from a friend whose son has leukaemia, in that case they had arranged for him to visit Old Trafford.
My father has supported Sheffield Utd since he was 10 years old. After he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June I thought something like this would really give him a boost whilst he undergoes treatment. The day did just that!!
He has not stopped talking about his experience since, he has even tried converting my son into a Sheffield Utd supporter, without any success I might add!!!!!
