The Christmas Spirit Dream
Jacqueline was looking after her husband, who has terminal asbestos mesothelioma, when she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2019. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy, then continued with targeted therapy with its many side effects, but she was just so thankful to have been given the all clear.
In January 2023 she was sent for an X-ray as was having hip pain, but this just showed wear and tear due to arthritis. By May 2023 she became extremely poorly and was taken into A&E. A CT scan showed that the cancer had returned and spread to her liver and multiple bones, and it was now terminal. Jacqueline was passed to the palliative care team and started on low dose chemotherapy and targeted treatments to help alleviate symptoms. Despite the poor prognosis, Jacqueline always remained positive and upbeat, and a nurse at Chatsfield put her forward for a dream with The Eve Merton Dreams Trust.
Jacqueline had always wanted to stay in a Christmassy Hotel and the charity organised a trip to The Grand hotel in York. It was absolutely fantastic and just the escape they needed. Baileigh, our Dreams Coordinator, contacted the hotel to make sure they had plenty of decorations up and the Christmas market made it so magical. All the hotel staff were amazing and helped to make their stay just perfect!
Thank you to all at EvesTrust, and The Grand Hotel, for making her dream a reality. It made a real difference for Jacqueline.
