On the 1st July 2013 Jill Hughes world was turned upside down as she was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. After the scary diagnoses she endured 8 months of back to back treatment which was tough on not only her, but on her husband Karl and 2 boys, Mitchell and Mackenzie. As we know all too well this horrific disease impacts not only the patients but effects everyone that surrounds it as well.
3 Half Marathons and a triathalon.
At the end of that gruelling 8 months and with treatment complete, Jill felt well for the next 2 years. During that time, much like Eve Merton herself who completed the Race for Life just months after treatment, Jill decided to use her time to do some pretty amazing and inspirational things. She ran 3 half marathons, completed a triathlon with Karl and even smashed the Great North Run Swim.
Unfortunately In January this year things would take yet another turn as Jill began to experience pains under her left ribs. Tests would later confirm that despite 1st thoughts, the cancer had never actually gone. So for Jill, her family, and her friends the fight still goes on which they will face with the same strength and determination they did the first time.
Jill has now just finished her chemotherapy, but has continued to do amazing things for others.
The treatment won’t cure the cancer, but because of research and new treatments it will help keep it under control.
Honoring an inspirational lady
So where do we come in? Obviously hearing Jill’s story we were eager to not only help but to honour such a brave inspirational lady who I’m sure Eve herself would have had a lot in common with. Jill had only one request from the trust. To throw a party of celebration for all of her friends and family that have been so supportive and available during her ups and her downs. The party theme, A ‘Love the life you live, Live the life you love’ party.
Jill’s friends spent weeks planning the party, including secret meetings with one of our ‘Dream Girls’ Shiree as they planned on making it the most incredible evening possible.
A Perfect Night
The night itself was perfect and Jill brought a tear to everyone’s eyes with a very emotional speech. A perfect evening for a truly inspirational lady. Here is that speech:
“Well where do I start! If I could only use one word to describe my party, that word would be …….WOW!!!
Some people come into your life for a season, others most certainly for a reason! A huge thank you to all our family and friends who joined us to celebrate life! We are so lucky to have you in our lives!
I would just like to say some heartfelt thank yous xx

We would like to thank Jill for allowing us to be a part of her special night and we wish her and her family all the best for any upcoming struggles ahead. You are in inspiration to others and we admire that so much. Love EvesTrust
