A Peaceful Retreat
In March of 2023, Kristina received a devastating diagnosis – cancer of the womb, just a few days before her 33rd birthday. This news hit her and her partner like a tidal wave, leaving them both stunned and heartbroken. Kristina had been struggling with health issues for years, but the delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic had pushed her diagnosis further and further away.
Determined to preserve a sense of normalcy for their 8-year-old daughter, they chose not to disclose the diagnosis to her. Kristina began her treatment, which, like cancer itself, came with its own set of hardships – hair loss, hot flashes, mood swings, and overwhelming exhaustion. She soldiered on, putting on a brave face for her daughter while silently bearing the weight of uncertainty and fear.
Nights often found Kristina in tears, grappling with the unknowns of her future and whether she’d be there to see her daughter grow up. As the treatment progressed, it became clear that it wasn’t responding as hoped, and her dream of expanding their family had to be relinquished. The only option left was a full hysterectomy to stop the cancer’s spread. The whirlwind of emotions, from diagnosis to surgery, was relentless, leaving Kristina and her partner grieving their loss.
Kristina underwent surgery, enduring immense pain and the weight of her loss. Throughout this ordeal, her partner stood by her side, offering unwavering support, attending countless appointments, and being a pillar of strength. He comforted Kristina when she needed to cry and made countless sacrifices, including time away from work, to care for her.
Their daughter, despite her tender age, exhibited incredible resilience. She helped her mother, provided comfort, and endured the pain of watching her parents suffer. There were moments of shared tears when the enormity of their helplessness became too much to bear.
Both her partner and daughter deserved the world for their unwavering love and support during this tumultuous period. Kristina yearned for a break, a chance to heal together, and cherish precious moments as a family, free from illness and stress.
