In June 2022, after experiencing one alarming episode of peeing blood, John received a diagnosis that would change his life forever.
Bladder cancer, grade 4, aggressive – these were the daunting words that echoed in John’s ears. The initial plan to remove the tumors and implement bladder implant chemo shifted when it was discovered that the cancer had spread, taking hold of the bladder, prostate, lymph nodes around the aorta, and even reaching a satellite lesion in his lung. Surgery was deemed unfeasible, and the reality of a terminal diagnosis began to set in.
Undeterred, John embarked on a valiant fight, facing the adversity head-on. Five rounds of grueling chemotherapy tested his strength, but he stood firm, determined to live life to the fullest. As the new year dawned in 2023, he was confronted with the harsh truth – his time was limited, and he had, at most, 10-12 months left to cherish life’s moments.
But John chose not to succumb to despair. He embraced a mantra of “LIVING WITH CANCER” – every day, he celebrated life, finding joy in the simplest of pleasures. With a heart full of gratitude, he played golf, ventured out, and relished every precious second.
Beside him stood Angie, his pillar of support and love. While John faced his journey with unwavering positivity, Angie grappled with the fear of losing her soulmate. The news of his terminal diagnosis sent waves of anxiety and stress through her, even leading to stress-related seizures.
